Research interests include political parties, elections, political risks and economic competitiveness. Auers has studied at the London School of Economics (LSE) and defended his PhD at University College London (UCL) in the United Kingdom. He has been a U.S. Fulbright program researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, and University of Washington, Seattle, and a Baltic-American Freedom Foundation researcher at Wayne State University, Detroit. In 2015, Palgrave Macmillan published his book "Comparative Politics and Government of the Baltic States: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in the 21st Century" (Politics and governance of the Baltic States: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in the 21st century).
